The LFS-11 is unveiled. The season for LUM begins!
4:24pm - 15/07/2011

In a suitably prudent ceremony, Loughborough University Motorsport (LUM) unveiled their competitor for this year's Formula Student season. The event took place at the LUM base in the Department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering, which was packed with guests and sponsor representatives. Scot Layton, the departmental advisor for the Formula Student Project, introduced the concept of Formula Student competition and the basic rules by which it is governed. Then, Owen Phillips, the LUM team leader presented the milestones in the way towards the LFS 11 this year's competitor. Starting from getting the team together in the first place, designing each and every component and finally putting the bits that make LFS 11 together. The unveiling of the car coincided with the last slide in the presentation.

LFS-11 at the centre of discussions

Autonomics was invited as a major sponsor to LUM. Dr Nick Gkikas, director of Autonomics commented: "The design of the LFS 11 already suggests that the team has been working flat out to incorporate so many new parts. After last year's result, reliability has been a key target for LUM, so I wish them better luck this year. As for the ergonomics of the car, I'm afraid our support was strictly financial this year; as for next year? We'll see!"

First competitive event for the LFS 11 is at Silverstone this weekend (16-17th July). Good luck to everyone involved!

LUM had a really good weekend up until Lady Luck chose to split ways with them on Sunday! While a top10 finish was within the team's grasp, an oil spilt on the exhaust system set the the engine bay alight and with it the hopes for the best ever result for LUM.
With the next FS round in Austria next week, the lads at LUM are expected to be busy getting the car ready in time; I am sure they will impress us again and hold the Union Jack up high in the Redbullring...
